High School Reunions

As I came out of the bedroom this morning, my husband was sitting on the couch surfing the Internet. He started singing.....Hhhaaaappyyy Bbiiirrrttthhhdddaaayy Mr. President (in Marilyn Monroe voice). I started laughing and thought....can you imagine being the President?

My husband and President Obama are the same age.....they graduated 30 years ago. My husband said.....No Thanks, he would not want to be the President......so this leads me to.....This weekend is my husbands 30 year reunion. We are only a 4 hour drive from where he graduated, but he has to work this weekend. He works at a dam and they do their annual maintenance in August of every year. They work long, hard hours for a couple of weeks straight, so we will not be attending his reunion.

Where do the years go, it seems every year goes by faster. I went to my ten year reunion, but will not go to another one. I am still friends with the people who were close to me and we still keep in touch. My Aunt, who is 70, goes to every one of her reunions and has a blast, maybe things were different for people in earlier years, I don't know. She graduated from the same high school as me and my husband, so what is so different?

I hung out with the people a year ahead of me, so I wouldn't mind going to their 30 reunion next year....we'll see.

How do the rest of you feel about high school reunions? Please share! Thanks!

Here's a couple of pictures of me and my hubby during high school....1979.

  2. I think most people go out of curiosity, unless they're the 'in' group putting it on.

You two were just too cute!

  3. I love the first photo . . .you both look so carefree!

The hubby and I went to our tenth reunion. We won a prize "Married the longest without "having" to get married!"

The twentieth rolled around and I didn't go because the hubby was backpacking through France on the first leg of his mid-life crisis, I have no idea what I did for the 30th.

But I do wish I'd gone solo to my 20th.
    You might have fun:)

  4. I have never been to a high school reunion. Although I have never left my hometown, I have never received a notice of the reunions. People that are scattered across the country receive them though. I probably wouldn't go anyway, but if they can't send me an invitation then I won't go. My 40th is next year. I will see if they neglect my invite again.

  5. I went to my 10 year reunion, but will never got to another one either. The crazy thing is I wasn't popular and did not hang out with the popular crowd. 2 years before our reunion, I ran in to a girl that use to be really popular in my class. We hit it off, and she was actually a bridesmaid at my wedding. So for our reunion we walked in together, and everyone was shocked. I sat with her old group of friends which was way akward. I guess I was that person that had changed alot because guys were coming up to me saying "our you ___ __, wow!" Made me feel good :) I have no interest in really seeing those people again, so no more for me.

  6. I don't have a desire to travel close to a thousand miles to see people I don't keep in contact with. I would rather spend that kind of time and money with those I love who are close by. I graduated FORTY years ago! It really does fly by fast.

  7. There is something so marvellous about seeing other people's old pictures. Love it..... you both look great.

I went to high school on the other side of the world. I'd love the chance to go back for a reunion now but equally, I think I'd be damn pleased to get out of there after an hour or two!

  8. I went to my 10th, five years ago. It was weird. The pretty people weren't so pretty anymore. Some normal looking people got very good looking, and some people just didn't change at all. Oh, and then there were people who looked entirely different than they did.

It was strange for me because I moved away and a lot of people didn't. Strange to see what life is like there, and what I may have been like if I had stayed. Everyone had kids, lots of stay at home moms, people out of work. It was really sad.

If nothing else, it made me appreciate how far I'd come since I left.

  9. Those pictures are great! That's so awesome that you're still together.

I just had my 25 year reunion and it was a blast! My friends and I debated going but the mood is so different than at the 10. There's no one who pretended to be anything they aren't. You should go!

  10. I'm just getting caught up on the past few blogs. #1 Yes, take friend to AlAnon, but don't let this intrude on your family. Be supportive from a distance. #2, good for you for stepping down, I was the aggresive go getter and at this co I'm at there were opportunities, but I saw the stress/hrs and did not pursue said position. Very glad, no pressure or stress with all the time off I've had for surgery/treatment of bc. You and your famliy are #1 in any decision, work is work. #3 Reunions, did my 10, would love to have a 30 but my group of friends have no interest in organizing and the other group of people I know are not oganizers, so I doubt it will happen. I see those h.s. friends who I"ve stayed friends with, so I'm ok with that.
Good luck on your Masters, it's a ton of work and I applaud anyone who takes on this task!
